Mrs. Melissa McHugh
[email protected] Our lead teacher in the K room is also the Dean of our Early Child Program at CBA. She holds a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education with further credentials in Creative Arts in Learning. Her Bachelor's Degree in English and Theater Performance allow her to effectively oversee the strength of our literacy program in these earliest grades and work collaboratively with our arts department to offer one-in-a-million performance opportunities for our youngest students. In addition to over twenty-five years of teaching, she also studied theater and comedy in London and enjoyed performing herself, offering all of our students a great example of the many paths the arts training can open up for learners. As an educator and advocate for young children, she has worked in New York City, Boston, and the Hudson Valley, both as a much-loved teacher and highly-successful administrator. Raised in New York City, her awareness of diversity and ability to expose her students to countless enriching cultural experiences is unparalleled. For the past seventeen years, she has happily resided in the Hudson Valley with her husband, becoming an active member of our community and raising her own three children here. Her passion for her field is enormous, and she cherishes the energy, curiosity, and wonder found in every child. Ms. Jen Haenlein jhaenlein@canterburybrookhss.com Born and raised in the Hudson Valley, our Ms. Jen brings to the classroom over twenty years of experience in working with young children. Locally, she is a children's empowerment leader of great renown and highly respected community activist, responsible for spearheading countless advancements for young people in our area of the Hudson Valley. Moreover, she is an artist in her own right, bringing to the classroom a spirit of creativity and a knowledge of artistic forms and art history that is rare to find in an early childhood specialist. As such, she also teaches in our Visual Art Department, working with our primary grade artists. She is a gifted STEM and social studies teacher for our youngest learners, creating incredible lessons to take them on exploratory, experiential journeys in the classroom and beyond. Her dedication to her students does not end when they leave her room or even when they graduate from her program; she prides herself on building life-long connections with every child she has the honor to meet. CBA is very lucky to have her! Mrs. Kate O'Connor [email protected] Mrs. O'Connor, graduate of Mount St. Mary college, comes from a long line of Hudson Valley educators, generations of women who have helped shape the lives children and grow a love of learning in the hearts of their students. In the footsteps of her family, she has spent the fifteen plus years of her career striving each day to ensure that her students leave the classroom a little happier than how they arrive each morning. Mixing love with high expectations, she possesses a unique ability to maintain excellence in academics and plenty of opportunities for laughter, creativity, and adventure. Mrs. O'Connor does a beautiful job at ensuring that our kindergarteners matriculate into the Primary School with all necessary tools for success in mathematics and literacy, as well as ensuring the growth of their fine motor skills through careful penmanship and increased independence. The mother of three beautiful children, she is acutely aware that all children learn differently and believes firmly in giving each child the space they need to grow and the support they need to reach their own goals. |
