Once students are done with their Regents level classes, the majority of our CBAers opt to focus on learning about how math will impact their daily lives.  Students who opt to may instead take a course in AP statistics in their junior year, and by senior year, other students may be engaged in their required OCCC courses, but all students are required to take a real-world math course before graduating so they can learn the following concepts before reaching adulthood:
  • Budgeting
  • Taxes
  • Interest
  • Banking
  • Business Planning
  • Quick Tricks for Life

Teacher's Bio: Ms. Nicole Purdy

Picture
Ms. Nicole Purdy is another CBA faculty member who wears multiple hats, much to the benefit of our school family!  Her role as Assistant Head of School allows her to get to know students long before they arrive in her room in the Intermediate School, of which she is also the Dean.  Nicole has worked in the field of education for over 20 years, ensuring the success of multiple generations of students.  Many of her former students have been so inspired by Ms. Purdy that they themselves have gone on to pursue careers in the fields of math and science.  Her hands-on approach to instruction and ability to build close relationships with her students sets her apart enormously from other educators in her field. She holds a Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree, and she has extensive training and experience in her subject areas, especially in mathematics and special education.  She is a passionate advocate for special needs  and gifted students alike, understanding the system from both an instructional and parental standpoint.  Ms. Purdy prepares students each year to take their Regents exams in math, starting in 8th grade, and can advise parents with full confidence about a child's readiness to succeed with this exam.  Nicole resides in Highland, NY, and she is is the dedicated mother of three amazing middle and high school children, each of whom have had their own special path to success during these formative years.
